ABOUT MISKOLC

The Castle of Diósgyőr

Castle od Diósgyőr is one of the oldest buildings in Miskolc. It was built at the beginning of the XIII century.
During the invasion of the Ottoman conquerors in the 16th century, the fortress was severely damaged in the 18th century. It was destroyed by Austrian troops in the 19th century. The reconstruction of the castle began in 1950. Now it is in the same condition as it was eight centuries ago.
The fortress is located in the valley of the eastern slope of the Bükk Mountains. The pride of the promenade leading to the castle is the line of 52 protected chestnut trees. This is one of the most beautiful promenades in Hungary.
